The problem is that most students “drown” in techniques for years, and never decipher the principles with any degree of significance. Traditionally, instructors (including us) expose their students to thousands of techniques over several years with the expectation that, at some point, they will “figure out” what the principles are. What is less known is exactly what those principles are and how a student is supposed to learn them. Anyone who has been around Jiu-Jitsu for any period of time knows that the art is entirely governed by a relatively small number of universal principles.
